President Obama on Wednesday appointed four Chicago-area business leaders to help boost Skills for America’s Future, a $2 billion program designed to train young people for manufacturing jobs. Vintage golf tourney raises money for scholarships

Golfers at Patty Jewitt Golf Course in Colorado Springs took a step back in time this afternoon. The Hickory Golf Classic is a benefit tournament for the Golf Foundation of Colorado which awards 20 scholarships each year to students who want to study professional golf management.

All of the players dress in 1920′s era clothing and use old-fashioned “hickory” clubs. They also must play by 1925 rules and use the less-aerodynamic period era golf balls.

Organizer George Lee says they take great effort to recreate the feel of the Roaring 20′s.

“We have the cars, the flapper girls, we have the music going up in the club house, we usually have 60 to 70 percent of repeat players that come back year over year.”

Sporting the argyle socks for News First 5 was our own Rob Quirk. He teed off with a group of local media personalities as part of the fun.
